It appears that this posture was motivated by the general pall of gloom which hung over the world of Islam. This view is strengthened by Allama's own words that the knowledge of the fundamentals of Islam is an essential prerequisite for a critical study of his poetry. He has also remarked that a study of the contemporary political and social conditions is must for the understanding of a philosophical system.
