Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS)
Generalist civil administration - the district and secretariat management cadre.
Nature of work
District management, revenue administration, coordination of provincial and federal functions, policy implementation.
Typical postings
Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner; federal and provincial secretariats.
Training
Civil Services Academy Lahore followed by specialised district-management training.
Skills useful for this group
Generalist judgement, public dealing, law-and-order coordination, drafting.
Possible challenges
Frequent transfers, high public exposure, political pressure.
Common misconception
It is not only “power” - much of the work is routine administration and crisis management.
